Urban Arts Projects
For whom?
Urban Arts Projects focuses on artists who create music, theatre, dance and spoken word performances from urban culture. The programme is open to artists who are active in their own area, but have not yet broken through into the Caribbean or European part of the Netherlands.
For what?
The grant is intended to help cover the costs of your time, materials and third-party services in developing and executing the new work. You can include goods such as a laptop or microphone in your budget, but the Fund does not subsidise these. But it will include renting a studio or materials for performances, for example.
How much?
As an individual, you can apply for a maximum of 15,000 euros. Companies and collectives can apply for a maximum of 25,000 euros. To determine the amount of the grant for companies and collectives, we look at things like the number of artists in the company or collective.
How and when to apply?
You can apply for this grant throughout the year, as long as the Fund’s budget is sufficient. You can receive a total of two grants through this programme. You can apply for the Urban Arts Projects scheme through My Fund. You need an ‘individual’ account to do this. After which you need to fill out an application form.
The application form asks who you are as an artist, what you have already done and what you want to do now (and with whom). There is also space to add links to your previous (music) productions or other examples of your work.
The Fund assesses whether the applicant and the project fit within the Urban Projects Programme within six weeks. If your application gets a positive assessment, it will be followed by an interview with Fund staff to further discuss the project. Applicants are then given four weeks to develop the plan. The Fund aims to decide upon the outcome of the application within six to eight weeks (maximum thirteen weeks) of submitting the plan.
A substantive plan is submitted as a PDF attachment through My Fund. You need to answer five questions in your plan to clarify exactly what you intend to do and how you will implement the plan:
- What is the intended outcome?
- How will you go about it?
- Who will your audience be and how will you reach them?
- What do you want to use the grant for? You need to make a budget for this.
- Whether you already have visual or audio material for the project?
Here you will find more information about submitting an application to the Perfoming Arts Fund NL.
Good to know
- Urban is a collective term for contemporary music, dance, and theatre forms that are influenced by (metropolitan) urban or social developments. Whenever possible, the Fund wants to get involved with what is going on in artistic environments and is therefore open to various initiatives in the urban field.
- Emerging artists are artists who are not yet widely known in the Caribbean or European part of the Netherlands. Artists are people who perform in shows or concerts, as well as choreographers, producers, composers and playwrights. As an artist, you have already developed your own identity and have a clear next step to undertake in your project or have something new to do. It is not a research project. Artists may also be eligible for support from the programme as companies.
- You are working towards a concrete and public result based on your plan. A public result might be a performance, event, concert, EP, album release or tour.
- The project in your application should be completed within six to 12 months from its start date.
More information about the conditions, assessment criteria and the information needed to process your application can be found via the button below on the Performing Arts Fund NL website. This information is available in Dutch.
