Cypher Cinema

For who?

We are looking for quirky, short films by self-taught directors or collectives* that:

  • have not directed an assessed final film to graduate from an accredited programme in film studies;
  • have proven experience as a professional director of audiovisual work (such as commercial assignments or television projects) or have worked as head of department;
  • have the ambition to further develop and profile themselves as film directors;
  • work and/or live in the Kingdom of the Netherlands (including the Caribbean part of the Kingdom);

*By collectives we mean artistic teams in which creators from different disciplines work together on an equal footing. By collective, we absolutely do not mean a traditional (hierarchical) film crew.

For what?

The Film Fund aims to encourage an influx of new voices and perspectives through its development grant and workshop and coaching programme for short films. The scheme focuses on developing short films with international ambitions in the fiction, animation, documentary and/or experimental categories. The selected filmmakers will work on the development of their film for a year, both independently and through workshops, meetings and coaching. Collaboration, dedication and creation are critical to this.

How much?

€10,000 per project (€8,500 for self-taught directors [with a creative team/ collective] and €1,500 for producers).

Good to know

  • The selection is made by a committee put together by the Film Fund.
  • When we select projects, we strive for a balanced mix of creators from all over the Netherlands, including the Caribbean part of the Kingdom. We try to ensure balanced teams of experienced and less experienced creators.
